Buying Coins

Buying from Hosker Haynes Auctioneers can be done in several ways, enabling our customers to bid in the way that suits them best.

Viewing

Auction catalogues will be available to view online approximately one month before an auction commences or you can register for a printed catalogue by contacting info@hoskerhaynes.com with your name and postal address. You can use the online or printed catalogue to browse auction lots and read accompanying descriptions. Whilst we endeavour to provide accurate descriptions and clear images, the lots on offer may also be viewed in person before the sale. Details regarding public viewing can be found in the current catalogue.

Registration

Registration is required before you are able to participate and place bids in one of our auctions, regardless of the bidding method you chose from below. Registration is easy and can be done by creating a client account. Once registered, you can log in to your account to search lots, add items to your watch list, submit valuations, manage invoices and bid on our sales.

Online Absentee Bidding

Approximately one month before the auction commences, an auction catalogue will be available to view online and lots will be open for absentee bidding. Clients can place absentee bids on our website from this time up to one hour before the auction commences. Once the auction has started, bids will be executed on your behalf up to the value of your maximum bid. Should multiple bids of the same amount be received for any lot, preference will be given to the first bid received.

Absentee Bids

If you are unable to place absentee bids via the website or bid live during the auction, you can submit bids in writing or email them to info@hoskerhaynes.com. Please use either a copy of the absentee bidding form (which can be found in the printed catalogue) or otherwise please clearly state:

  • Your name, address and contact number
  • Auction number and date of auction
  • Lot number(s)
  • Short description of the lot
  • The maximum amount you wish to bid in £GBP, complying with the increments set out in the terms and conditions (any bids placed outside of these increments will be rounded down to the nearest step).

Please note that absentee bids made in writing must be received by Hosker Haynes Auctioneers Limited by 18.00 GMT on the day before the auction.

Live Room Bidding

Our catalogue sales are held live. Clients are invited to join us and participate in person for live room bidding. If you are attending the live auction and have not created a client account, please bring a form of identification and we can register you on the day. Once registered you will be provided with a paddle number for room bidding.

Live Online Bidding

Hosker Haynes Live, our online bidding portal, can be used on your computer, tablet or mobile phone to bid live from wherever you are, as if you were present in the auction room. Please note that prior registration is required before you can participate in online bidding.

Live Telephone Bidding

You have the option to place bids live via the telephone with one of our representatives who will be present in the auction room. If you would prefer to bid by telephone, this can be booked either online through your client account or by contacting us at least three working days prior to the auction to make arrangements.

Live Online Bidding Via Third Party Platforms

We currently accept bids placed via the Saleroom, Numisbids and Easy Live Auction. However, please note that bidding via third party platforms may incur additional costs. Therefore, we recommend bidding directly with our online bidding portal, Hosker Haynes Live, whenever possible. All bids placed must be made in UK sterling only and excluding buyer’s premium. All bids are final and binding in accordance with the terms and conditions and we strongly recommend viewing any lots where possible before placing any bids. Please note all successful bids will be subject to 20% buyer’s premium on the hammer price and any applicable VAT. Please see our Terms and Conditions of Business for further details at www.hoskerhaynes.com/terms-and-conditions/
